### JCSW Dean’s Leadership Awards for Advancement of Women’s Careers in the Faculty of Medicine

The Joint Committee on the Status of Women (JCSW) has been honoring faculty members committed to advancing women’s careers at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) since 1998. Three distinguished awards recognize faculty for their dedication to the recruitment, retention, and advancement of women:

- **The Joseph B. Martin Dean's Leadership Award for the Advancement of Women**, recognizing lifetime achievement in this mission.
- **The Shirley Driscoll Dean’s Leadership Award for the Enhancement of Women’s Careers**, recognizing faculty members who are dedicated to advancing the careers of women but may not be able to recruit or promote faculty at this time in their own careers.
- **The Nancy J. Tarbell Dean's Award for an Emerging Leader in Women's Careers**, recognizing faculty with a significant local impact.

Candidates, regardless of gender may be nominated by any HMS/HSDM faculty member. Recipients will be selected by the JCSW Dean’s Award Selection Subcommittee and Dean George Q. Daley, M.D., Ph.D.

Nominate a deserving colleague today to recognize their contributions to advancing women's careers at HMS and HSDM!

### FAQs expand\_more

1. **Question:** May I nominate a faculty member that leads or has led an office for women's careers?
    - **Answer:** Yes. While these awards previously excluded nominees who had led such offices and initiatives, all faculty may now be nominated. This would also apply for those who lead or have led hospital or departmental faculty development office.
2. **Question:** May I nominate a department chair?
    - **Answer:** Yes. We believe that most department chairs would be considered for the Martin Award as they hire and manage the promotions process and are key leaders at HMS/HSDM.
3. **Question:** May I nominate a Dean?
    - **Answer:** No. Those with decanal roles are not eligible.
4. **Question:** Can I re-nominate candidates who were previously nominated for faculty awards?
    - **Answer:** Yes, you may nominate a faculty member as many times as you'd like. However, if you'd like to resubmit a nomination packet from a previous year, this can only be done once. Please include a one-page addendum with any updates, along with the candidate's name and institution, and email it to [jcsw\_adminassist@hms.harvard.edu](mailto:jcsw_adminassist@hms.harvard.edu).
